Man found dead in Cole Bay
from SXM Pages: A homeless man was found shot and killed in Windsor Road in Cole Bay Last Night. According to the Today Newspaper this morning the man was identified as Vincent a French national and was reportedly besten up unknown assailants about two days before his death. He was found shot in the head .
The above is the story as reported by Today and SXM Pages, the next day SXM Island Time has different details:
PHILIPSBURG - On Wednesday July 30th at approximately 08.00 p.m. the Central Police Dispatch received a phone call notifying them, that the body of a man was found lying on the ground at the end of Windsor road in the Cape Bay and that this man was not showing any signs of life.
Immediately after receiving this information, the central Police Dispatch mobilized the personnel of the Detective Dept. and the Forensic Dept. to investigate the matter. On the scene the detectives found the lifeless body of an unidentified white male.
A preliminary investigation of the body, done by the Forensic dept. revealed that the victim had a wound above his left eye from which he had been bleeding.
Dr. MERCUUR who came to the scene pronounced the death of the victim, but could not determine what was the cause of death.
On orders of the Public Prosecutor Mr. DEVELING, the body of the victim was confiscated for further investigation and transported to a morgue.
During a search of the victim in an attempt to locate some type of identification, among other personal items, a plastic medication container on which the name of Vincent CULLEN was written and a set keys were found.
These items lead detectives to a hotel apartment in the Cupe a Coy area, where the victim and his parents are presently staying. The father of the victim recognized the items found on the victim by the detectives, as those belonging to his son by the name Vincent Mark CULLEN, born in the Unites States and is 28 years of age.
The family had arrived on the island on July 26th for vacation. The father of the victim also confirmed that his son had left home earlier that day, to visit a local casino.
At the morgue the father of the victim identified the confiscated body as that of his son. A medical investigation has to be carried out to determine the cause of the death and the detectives are still busy questioning potential witnesses.
edited to add: so far this is looking like it is not being treated as a crime. Here is one more article.

Villa in Oyster Pond/Dawn Beach was burgled:
They added this info to a thread with a burglary report from the same villa from March:
We were robbed while we were on the patio having dinner. Someone with a key, as we locked EVERYTHING.
They took all our jewelry, cash and cell phone and then locked the room back up. As they left, they stole our rental car (the key had a lock to the front gate, which was also locked). Found the car two days later at the scene of another robbery down the street. Spent a night/day working with both Dutch and French police and are now dealing with the damage to the vehicle (claims, etc.)
They added this info to a thread with a burglary report from the same villa from March:
nine thirty at night Thursday march 6th 2008. Two men arrive while we are home and break into one of the lower rooms and steal everything they can get their hands on physically assault a guest.
Bruce from TTOL - villa break in with violent threats week of July 24
Bruce from TTOL reports:
Hi Everyone ... Just got home and have not had time to even sit down and reflect on what has really happened to us and how lucky i am that Kim is still alive and ok .. once we settle down at home we will tell our whole story .Sadly on our first morning of our honeymoon after i had left our villa to go to Baywatch at 630am and Kim was at home working out someone broke the sliding door open and entered our villa grabbing Kim and forcing her into the bedroom demanding cash or he would rape and kill her . after a struggle in the bedroom Kim was able to escape and run out of the villa screaming for help... the attacker fled but returned seconds later and upon her screams a worker at the next villa heard her and came running to help her ...i got a call at Baywatch that all of this had just happened . Thank god Kim is a stronger person than i ever thought or she could have been seriously hurt , i am hoping she recovers mentally from this with out too much damage .. We moved out of the villa in a hour and were moved into the Alamanda for the rest of the trip, Alan at the Alamanda took good care of us and we owe him a huge thanks for making Kim feel safe there .... Plenty more of this i will tell about once we settle things down at home ....Unless things change we don't know if we can ever return to the island . MORE LATER....
Wow thanks everyone ... you don't know how much the support means to us as we all are affected by this kind of crime .. it doesn't really matter which villa it is because as we found out they "all" have been robbed at some point .. NO VILLA IS SAFE from this type of crime .. the sliding glass door was locked and if he had not broken it open with his tools he would have smashed it open if needed ..Orient Village needs better fencing , better security and lots of it ..i don't care if every tourist coming through that gate has to pay something , something needs to be done before some one gets murdered there because thats only an angry moment from happening , my wife had to fight off a guy on top off her in our bedroom who had a weapon pushed up under her shorts against her . how she ever escaped i will never know .. i am so proud of Kim that words can't explain .. we took every precaution we could to prevent this from happening . i don't know at this point if there will be a Bruce's Baywatch Bash party this year or not .. and i may have to pull the raffle and refund the tickets sold so far .. i have to see how Kim and our daughter who was so upset by this will want to return to St Martin anytime soon ...
oh yeah ..we spent a few hrs with the Gendarmerie who showed up 30 min, after they were called , they were worthless . didn't even fill out a report . we left feeling they felt no crime was committed since nothing was taken or she was not injured ..
They (Gendarmes) basically snickered at us also , telling us we should have had the shutter down ..Hello it was 730 am on a Sunday morning!! we think they joked about how many SXM stamps Kim had in her passport when he looked through it ..

We were robbed, but we will still go back
Car break in reported on Trip Advisor with a full description here:
The first day we were there, we drove all around the island, taking pictures of everything we saw. Then, the next day, we went to Pinel Island for 1/2 day and decided to spend the other 1/2 day at Le Galion Beach (our new favorite beach). We were there less than an hour and it started to rain. So, we thought that was our cue to get back to the hotel and get ready for dinner. Matthew gets to the car, opens the trunk and says, "Hey, MaLeah where did you put our beach bag?"I say, "What do you mean where is the bag? It's in the trunk." And, he says, "No, it isn't here." So, of course I think he's joking with me. I say, "No seriously, where is it?" He says the same back to me as he thinks I too am messing around with him. Nope, no such luck. Our bag is missing. Now this bag was in a LOCKED trunk, all doors locked on the car and we were no more than 50 yards from our car at any given time. Someone stole our beach bag!
